PUBLIC CALL
FOR APPLICATIONS FOR THE ELECTION OF NEW ASSOCIATES,
HONORARY AND INTERNATIONAL MEMBERS
OF THE CROATIAN ACADEMY OF ENGINEERING
In accordance with the Articles 16 and 17 of the Statute of the Croatian Academy of Engineering and the Article 4 of the Bylaws on Election to Membership of the Academy, the interested institutions are invited to nominate applicants for the Associates of the Academy, International Members of the Academy and Honorary Members of the Academy.
According to the Article 5 of the Bylaws, the initial applications with elaborations for election to membership of the Academy may be submitted by Department, Governing Board or Presidency of the Academy as well as by all institutions with scientific status in the Republic of Croatia (universities, polytechnics, faculties, colleges, institutes, academies and other scientific organizations).

The applicants may be proposed to the following categories of membership of the Academy:

The Public Call is announced for total of 34 vacant places of the Associates of the Academy and total of 5 vacant places of the International Members of the Academy.
III. Honorary Members of the Academy (number of vacant places: 10)
The Public Call is announced for total of 3 vacant places of the Honorary Members of the Academy.
The criteria for the election to a category of membership are stipulated by the Article 17 of the Statute of the Academy and the Articles 8, 9 and 10 of the Bylaws on the Election to Membership of the Academy.
In accordance with the Article 8 of the Bylaws, a person may be proposed for the election to Associate of the Academy if he or she is a Croatian or foreign scientist with a minimum required title of Scientific Associate or Assistant Professor in the field of technological and/or biotechnological sciences. Exceptionally, and with special elaboration by the institution that submits the application, a person from other scientific fields may apply for this category of membership if they have significantly contributed to the development of engineering disciplines. After a conducted peer-reviewing procedure and evaluation of the candidate by a competent Department of the Academy, the respective Department issues a proposal for the election to Associate of the Academy. The proposal is accepted by the Presidency of the Academy and voted upon by the Assembly of the Academy. A person must be in the category of the Associate of the Academy for at least three years before they may be elected to Member of the Academy.
In accordance with the Article 9 of the Bylaws, a person may be proposed for the election to Honorary Member of the Academy if he or she is a distinguished Croatian or foreign scientist, who has contributed significantly, by his or her life-long activity, to affirmation, notability and reputation of technological and/or biotechnological sciences in Croatia or abroad. Honorary Members are proposed for the election by the Presidency of the Academy and elected by the Assembly of the Academy. After a conducted peer-reviewing procedure and evaluation of the candidate by a competent Department of the Academy, the respective Department, Presidency or the President of the Academy issues a proposal for the election to Honorary Member of the Academy. Honorary Member is not counted in the Department membership.
In accordance with the Article 10 of the Bylaws, a person may be proposed for the election to International Member of the Academy if he or she is a distinguished Croatian or foreign scientist in the field of technological and/or biotechnological sciences, who lives and works abroad, and is elected by the Assembly of the Academy at the proposal of the Department of the Academy. After a conducted peer-reviewing procedure and evaluation of the candidate by a competent Department of the Academy, the respective Department issues a proposal, which is accepted by Presidency of the Academy and voted upon by the Assembly of the Academy. The International Member of the Academy has rights and obligations equal to those of the Member of the Academy in the Department which proposed him for the election. Each Department can have a maximum of two International Members of the Academy.
Proposals for the election should be prepared and submitted in accordance with the propositions of the Bylaws on the Election to Membership of the Academy. The prospective applicants are requested to take particular note of the Articles 5 and 6 of the Bylaws.
Natural persons cannot singularly apply to the Public Call, but their application should be submitted to the Public Call exclusively by: Department, Governing Board or Presidency of the Academy, and institutions with scientific status in the Republic of Croatia, respectively (universities, polytechnics, faculties, colleges, institutes, academies and other scientific organizations).
The application is prepared by an Academy body or scientific institution, respectively, which submits the application a candidate, according to application forms that are an integral part of the Bylaws on the Election to Membership of the Academy and are available on the Academy website: http://www.hatz.hr/beta/hr/pravilnik-o-izboru-u-clanstvo/ (in Croatian).
The following documents are required in the application:
- Conclusion of the Academy body or scientific institution, respectively, which applies the candidate to the Public Call, containing data on the membership category and respective Department to which the candidate is applied for the election,
- Candidate’s Curriculum Vitae,
- Scoring Form with candidate’s bibliography and other activities,
- Candidate’s Signed Statement stating acceptance of: candidacy, Statute of the Academy, Code of Ethics and Bylaws on the Election to Membership of the Academy.
The deadline for applications is February 1, 2017 (date of postal stamp and email date, respectively).

The incomplete applications and applications that will have arrived after the deadline shall be excluded from the Public Call and will not be taken into account.
The proclamation of elected members will take place at the Annual Assembly of the Croatian Academy of Engineering in May, 2017.
